Human Health
We prioritize materials and processes that ensure safety and wellness for our customers, employees, and suppliers. From the selection of non-toxic finishes to the avoidance of harmful chemicals, we are committed to designing furniture that promotes clean air quality and healthy indoor environments. Our goal is to create products you can trust—pieces that bring beauty and functionality into your spaces without compromising your health. We use only water-based adhesives and stains which help us maintain VOC levels that are significantly below the South Coast Air Quality Management District standard. All our products are formaldehyde free and contain no PVC. We are currently underway examining all of our material ingredients at the chemical composition level in order to provide Health Product Declarations for our entire product offering. We will take that information and work even harder to continue to remove harmful ingredients. We will continue to obtain clean air certifications such as SCS Indoor Advantage Gold.
Climate Health
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint. We have begun the work of understanding our impact by measuring our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. We will develop and execute a strategy to reduce those while we work to measure our Scope 3 emissions. We are sourcing renewable energy, such as the solar panels that currently supply 64%of our total energy needs, and optimizing energy efficiency in our manufacturing processes. By utilizing low- carbon materials, we aim to combat climate change while crafting furniture that stands the test of time. We also strive to minimize emissions across our supply chain, from material sourcing to the delivery of our products.
Ecosystem Health
We are deeply committed to protecting and preserving the ecosystems that sustain life. This means sourcing wood and other raw materials responsibly, supporting sustainable forestry practices, and working to eliminate waste in our production processes. All of our products containing wood are available with FSC Chain-of-Custody certification. By choosing materials that are regenerative and environmentally conscious, we contribute to healthier ecosystems and the preservation of biodiversity.
Social Health and Equity
At the heart of our mission is a belief in fairness, equity, and opportunity for all. We seek to partner with suppliers who uphold ethical labor practices and ensure safe, inclusive work environments. To this end we have created a Code of Ethics which we share with our suppliers to ensure we are partnered with companies who share our values. We work with a local supply chain, creating local jobs and contributing to the communities around us. By keeping sourcing and fabrication localized, it lessens our carbon footprint and ensures the highest level of quality control.
A Circular Economy
We are reimagining furniture design through the lens of a circular economy. Many products are engineered for disassembly and reupholstery, extending the service life even further.By designing for durability, repairability, and recyclability, we seek to extend the life cycle of our products and reduce waste. Our pieces are timeless and will never go out of style. The quality of our product means we can keep it out of landfills, and it can be repaired and refurbished. Together, we are building a future where resources are reused, repurposed, and respected.
Our Promise
Sustainability is more than a goal; it is a journey of constant growth and improvement. At Martin Brattrud, we hold ourselves accountable to the principles of the Common Materials Framework and remain steadfast in our pursuit of innovative solutions that prioritize people and the planet.
