Then + Now

2021 marks 75 years in business for Martin Brattrud. To commemorate, throughout this year we'll be taking a look back to revisit some moments from our past. There are many things that remain virtually unchanged for us in the last 75 years. We are still located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. We are still renowned for our mastery of upholstered seating. And we are still led by design, partnering with the top design talent in the industry to bring our products to life.

Founded in 1946, Martin Brattrud began as a modest frame shop. But with breakthrough advancements in material technologies, such as molded foam rubber and high quality sinuous springs, new manufacturing techniques were able to help drive rapid growth. By the early 1950s Martin Brattrud had evolved to become one of the region's best regarded manufacturers of high end residential furniture, with a specialization in upholstered seating.

Partnering with well-regarded designers and architects of the time such as Greta Grossman and Milo Baughman, Martin Brattrud manufactured custom pieces as well as entire product lines.

While we've continued to build on our legacy and reputation, some things have changed.

"Then" we were residential.
"Now" we serve the demands of the contract market.

"Then" we were a regional manufacturer.
"Now" we support clients worldwide.

"Then" we were discovering the possibilities of modern materials.
"Now" we are striving to ensure the best possible material health while lessening our environmental impact.

Stay tuned through the rest of the year as we'll continue to look back at moments in time, and how the "then" led us to the "now".
